BOX48.cz joins the Nelež initiative, which is launching a communication campaign to bring together people who are divided by fake news. There is no doubt that our society is divided thanks to misinformation. And that disinformation is gaining momentum ahead of the 2021 elections. That's why Nelež has decided to enter the public space with a communication campaign. It wants to draw attention to the pernicious influence of false information and try to make people think and change their behaviour.
The fact is that disinformation spreads 6 times faster in the media space than information (Source: Princeton University study), 30% of Czech users are influenced by deliberate manipulation (Source: Semantic Vision), the largest Czech disinformation websites earn up to CZK 190,000 per month in advertising revenue (Source: PSSI), and 72% of voters consider disinformation to be the biggest problem threatening their future (Source: Kantar survey for CT).
In the campaign, we call on people to verify information, think critically and not fall for misinformation. We work with disinformation narratives or subjects that are affected by disinformation. We always leave an open ending in the text, so it's up to everyone what they put in the sentence. We then point out that the way people think about the subject may be the result of disinformation campaigns. For example, the perception of covid, vaccination, the lithium case, the events in Vrbětice, but also of individual politicians and political parties.
